Step 4: Installing the Medulla Agent

Background

During the initial installation of Medulla, agents must be generated before they can be downloaded and installed on the workstations or servers to be monitored.

Agent Installation

1. Create an Entity

Before downloading an agent, you must create an entity in Medulla.

From the Medulla interface:

Administration → Entity Management

Click the "+" button at the end of the Medulla row to add a new entity.

Then create an entity that corresponds to your organization or management scope.

Examples:

  • Site
  • Client
  • Department
  • Test environment

Note:
It is not possible to download an agent directly from the Medulla entity in the interface.

You must first create a child entity, then generate and download the agent from that entity.

If necessary, agents can also be downloaded directly from the following URL:

http://<fqdn>/downloads

Example:

http://medulla.domaine.lan/downloads

2. Generate Medulla agents

Once the entity has been created, you must generate the Windows and Linux agents before proceeding with any installation.

3. Download the agent

In Administration → Entity Management, click the agent download icon for the relevant entity.

Then select the corresponding operating system:

  • Windows
  • Linux

4. Install the agent

Next, launch the agent installation on the relevant node or workstation.

Installation in a SaaS environment

For SaaS environments, agents are already generated and available directly from the Medulla interface.

Simply:

  1. Go to Administration → Entity Management
  2. Create a child entity if necessary
  3. Click the download icon for the relevant entity
  4. Select the desired OS
  5. Install the agent on the target workstation

Note:
It is not possible to download an agent directly from the Medulla entity in the interface. The download must be performed from a child entity or from:

http://<fqdn>/downloads

Uninstalling the Medulla agent

Versions earlier than 5.5.2

To uninstall a Medulla agent on a version earlier than 5.5.2, follow the procedure available in the dedicated FAQ:

Versions 5.5.2 and later

Important

  • Verify network connectivity between the node and the Medulla server after installation.
  • For an on-premises installation, verify that the agents were successfully generated before downloading.
  • For the Medulla root entity, use the URL http://<FQDN>/downloads if a direct download is required.
