MDM Module (Concept and Principles)
Medulla includes a module for managing Android mobile devices based on the open-source Headwind MDM (Mobile Device Management) solution. This module allows administrators to manage the entire fleet of Android smartphones and tablets from the Medulla interface, without needing to physically access the devices.
Management relies on continuous communication between the Headwind MDM agent installed on each device and the Medulla server, enabling real-time monitoring of device status, application deployment, enforcement of security policies, and remote control.
This module enables the following actions:
- Enroll Android devices via QR code or registration link.
- View a list of all devices in the fleet and their status.
- Organize devices into groups and configurations.
- Deploy and manage apps on devices.
- Transfer files to devices.
- Apply security policies: kiosk mode, network restrictions, device lock, etc.
- Communicate with devices: text messages, remote commands, screen control.
- View photos sent from devices and manage contact synchronization.
- Manage access to the module via users and roles.
The organization of devices within the module is based on two key concepts:
- Groups: allow you to freely group devices together to apply bulk actions to them (reboot, message, reset, etc.).
- Configurations: define the MDM profile applied to a device (allowed apps, restrictions, kiosk mode, Wi-Fi, etc.). Each device is linked to a single configuration, but a configuration can apply to multiple devices.
Prerequisites:
To access the MDM module’s features, an HMDM account must be configured in Medulla. Without this configuration, the module’s pages display an error message prompting the administrator to complete the setup.
To access this module, click Mobile in the Medulla navigation bar.
